Below is a news release from the Utah Watershed Restoration Initiative, of which the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is a funding partner.
One hundred and six of the 146 project proposals submitted to the Utah Watershed Restoration Initiative (WRI) were either fully or partially funded as of June 19.
This year’s list of funded projects is scheduled to improve another 275,000 acres of priority watersheds in Utah. Funding for these projects totaled $37 million in WRI and partner funding as well as another $5 million of in-kind support.
Major funding partners include: Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Sportsman for Fish and Wildlife, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Mule Deer Foundation, Utah Archery Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, Utah Wild Sheep Foundation, Safari Club International, Wildlife Conservation Foundation, Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit Association, Chukar Foundation, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Foundation for America’s Public Lands and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
WRI projects focus on improving three ecosystem values in Utah:
- Watershed health and biological diversity
- Water quality and quantity
- Opportunities for sustainable uses of natural resources
